a film photography editorial in Iceland about losing control in a relationship.
Living nightmare
Living Nightmare tells the story of a woman who lost control of her mind by being psychologically abused. Using a first person perspective, the protagonist’s inner turmoil is outlined through a series of images depicting her falling chaotically from the sky. The article was put together using printed film images and handwriting over it to add dimension to our story.
Beside this article, I was also a member of the Communication Team. I assisted in the curation of an exhibit in Patreksfjörður and an expo in ELISAVA (where I also served as bartender). For the magazine, I also wrote the entire text for the chronicle.
Assignment
In groups of three, create a magazine editorial about the topic of control and consisting of film photographs taken on our trip to Iceland and text. The Design Team is in charge of putting the magazine together and the overall aesthetic of the first edition of MADNN magazine. The Communication Team has to create exhibits to share the work with the public, write a chronicle of the Iceland trip and take charge of social media. The Video Team has to document the trip and create an after movie.

Final Article
We wanted to show the process of control being taken away from you throughout a toxic relationship. To do this, we took pictures from the first person perspective to have the viewer feel as if they are falling down. This allowed us to take advantage of the beautiful Icelandic landscape while also showing the disorientation our protagonist is experiencing. The analog aspect also showcases the internal struggle our character is facing. We collaged the “falling” images over “romantic” images to represent the ways in which relationships can look perfect from the outside, but inside it is not how it seems.
the chronicle
While writing this chronicle, I attempted to capture every person’s experience and asked the Design Team to include artifacts to visually connect with the text. The idea of the chronicle is to be more like a scrapbook of our travel - something people make to share with others, rather than a personal diary like my team’s Living Nightmare article.
